HISTORY
The Africa Institute of Journalism & Communications (AIJC) was established in 2001 by Hon Kojo Yankah, former editor of Ghana’s widest circulation newspaper, the Daily Graphic, one-time director of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, and former Member of Parliament and Minister of State. The Institute admitted its first batch of 60 students in October 2002 under a collaboration arrangement with the Ghana Institute of Journalism. It was officially accredited as a tertiary institution by the National Accreditation Board in March 2004. VISION To become Africa’s best centre for journalism and communication studies providing opportunities for advanced learning and practical and professional applications for the rapid growth and development of the continent.
MISSION AIJC seeks to be a creative leader and trainer, to deliver enriched learning experience and promote professional and economic development.
FUNCTIONS AIJC is set up in Ghana:
To produce communication professionals for Africa in a changing world. To provide opportunities for Africans to specialize in various branches of journalism and communications To help raise standards of professionalism in the communication media in Africa. To produce professionals with the requisite skills in information gathering, application of information technology and communication skills. To organize distant learning programmes for those who cannot register for on-campus studies.
