Germany11 March 16 killed in Germany school attack
A shooting at a school in southern Germany has left 16 people dead, including an armed 17-year old, police have said.

Reports said police shot the suspect after he fled Albertville high school in Winnenden, near Stuttgart.
Police and media reported that a man dressed in black had entered the school at about 9:30am (08:30 GMT) and opened fire.

Witnesses said students jumped from the windows of the school building after the teenager opened fire.

Petra Wischgoll, a journalist in Cologne, told the press that the suspect finished school last year, according to the police.

"He was always a very quiet student, who never did anything, and wasn't really big in the picture.
"He was very quiet and nobody ever thought of him much. So everybody is very surprised that it was him doing the shooting," she said.

Altogether nine students and three teachers are believed to have been killed at the school.

After he fled from the school, the suspect shot a passer-by as he tried to take a car, then drove 30km away before his final shoot-out with police, where another two passers-by were killed.

The attack is Germany's worst school shooting since 2002, when 16 people were killed at a high school in Erfurt in eastern Germany by a 19-year-old former student, who then turned the gun on himself.

11 March Alabama gunman kills nine
A lone attacker in the US state of Alabama has killed at least nine people, including his mother, in a shooting rampage.

The assailant burnt down his mother's home as she was inside on Tuesday, and shot eight people before shooting himself at a metals plant in the south of the state after a police chase, officials said.

It was unclear whether his mother had been shot before the assailant burnt down her home.

The suspect "left at least nine victims dead before he died from a self-inflicted gunshot", an Alabama department of public safety statement said.
