Iraq11 Mar Eight US soldiers killed in Iraq
EIGHT US soldiers were killed in two separate incidents in Iraq yesterday, according to the US military reports.

Three soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb, along with their interpreter in Iraq's Diyala province, while a suicide bomber killed five in the capital Baghdad.

Analysts said the bombing in Baghdad, which the U.S. military had confirmed on Monday, was the worst single attack on U.S. forces in the capital in nearly nine months.

Furthermore, reports in Iraq said four Iraqi policemen, four gunmen and one civilian were killed on Tuesday in an attack on a security checkpoint in the city of Mosul, which the U.S. military says is al Qaeda's last major urban stronghold.

The death toll of US troops killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 now stands at 3,982. Ten soldiers have been killed this month, compared to 81 in the whole of March 2007.

Analysts say violence across Iraq has dropped by 60 percent since 30,000 extra U.S. troops were deployed in June 2007.
