Mandela19 Feb Spice Girls gig in honour of Mandela
The Spice Girls have offered to perform at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebrations in June at London’s Hyde Park.

An all-star concert, including Queen stars Brian May and Roger Taylor, is being organised to mark Mandela’s birthday on 27 June.

The Spice Girls, UK's most successful all-women group, recently reformed and are currently on tour until 26 February. They met Mandela during a visit to Johannesburg in November 1997, when he famously referred to them as his "heroes".

Speaking to the press before a Spice Girls concert in New York, one of the members, Melanie Chisholm, said: "We're great friends of Mr Mandela and we would love to perform for him again."
